Quote(s) of the Day: "Whooaaaa that was a big fish that tried to eat your dry fly!"
"This was a perfect day"!
The river looks really good this year, so healthy and full - you can really tell the fish are benefiting because they're so strong, big and healthy.

Fishing Highlights:

The Kakel family came up to celebrate independence day on the river at Lincoln Hills property. They were greeted with beautiful weather and some hungry fish. Ryan was first up to bat hooking and landing his first of many trout of the morning. Chase was on fire in the first run hooking and landing a few fish. As we were walking up the river we spotted a large rainbow sitting in a shallow riffle so Chris stepped up and managed to feed her and she took him over a set of falls but managed to rid the hook. Ryan and Chase landed some high quality, big fish in the morning hours. After a nice lunch break we headed back out. The afternoon consisted of much of the same. We worked different runs with dry dropper rigs and catching quite a few fish. The highlight of the afternoon was watching Ryan put a perfect roll cast into floating rock and watching a very large rainbow come up and try to take his hopper. Thanks for a great day guys and will see you soon.First of all I would like to thank the Kakel,Bevington and Lansdowne family for spending a great fourth of July with us this year. We fished mostly a dry dropper rig in the morning. Scott was first to the net with a fish. After some quick releases Aly had her first fish of the day as well. Emily and I went up river a little where a fish took a swipe at the dry but just barley missed it.The next drift it came up again and Emily pulled the trigger on him and hooked him nicely. The rest of the morning we spent hooking fish on the dropper patterns. The flows have come down a little .It was at 300 when we started and down to 280 by the time we finished up. The afternoon brought more of the same with Aly and Scott hooked up on a regular basis. They even had the time to take a nice double. This was a great group today. I would like to say thank you to everyone who came up and spent a fun day on the water with us. Hope to see you soon.Today was a blast - its always fun fishing with the Kakel and Lansdowne crew. As usual Dylan and Chase continue to improve their technique; these kids know how to throw a fly rod and catch fish! Drew was a quick study and started hooking fish right off the bat using both a European Style rig and suspension rig. With the water dropping a lot of shallow riffles are filling up with fish so we had a lot of fun exploring parts of the river that have been inaccessible. These fish are often the biggest and willing to crush dry flies. After lunch we headed up to the canyon beat and the fishing really lit up. David hooked several really big fish on shelves dropping into plunge pools - and best we of all we did it with dry-dropper rigs. Drew and I spied on a huge fish - the thing looked like a steelhead ... we stalked this monster, Drew made the perfect cast and this beast annihilated the dropper. We left with the memory of the fish screaming downriver and breaking off! Lifetime memories!

Lots of insects are on the water! This is some of the best fly fishing close to Denver right now. We are seeing regular hatches of Pale Morning Duns, Gray and Green Drakes, Mahogany Duns, Caddis, Yellow Sallies, and Golden Stones.  The evening hatch has been something you just don’t want to miss. The shallow riffles at Boulder River Ranch are bug factories this season! The late morning and early afternoon have been producing some outstanding dry fly fishing. Dry flies and droppers are the way to go! It summer at Lincoln Hills, the big fish are on the feed and many big fish in the 4-6 pound class have been hooked and our fly fishing trips have been fantastic. Work the water in between major runs and riffles, sometimes the odd pocket will produce a trophy fish. Look for the caddis to start popping in the afternoon. The fish are looking fat and healthy! Many nice fish in the 16-22” range have been hooked! The big fish are on the feed! Anglers are reporting hooking numerous brown and rainbow trout in the 5-10 pound range. This is your best shot at a World- Class trout fishing experience close to Denver. Try an Amy’s Ant (size 10-12) or California Blonde (size 10-16) to fool hopper eating fish.  The fishing is great.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 48-51 degrees and Crystal Clear.
