Quote(s) of the Day: "One drift ,one fish that was impressive"!

Fishing Highlights:

The water has taken a little upward trend on us. Flowing at 360 today. That didn't bother Keaton who I might add is now a college graduate. He walked right in this morning with a dry dropper and started to hook and land fish right away. Kit came down with a nymph rod and hooked his first couple of fish as well. Geoff went down river a little and found some big fish that did not want to play nice. The morning fished great for everybody on both rigs. On our way to lunch Geoff landed a beautiful cutthroat that went twenty inches. After lunch we went up river and looked at several spots. We tried one spot just to see. I gave Geoff three minutes to try. First drift he landed a nice rainbow with two minutes to spare. Nice job Geoff! Most of the afternoon was dry dropper rigs with fish coming up for the dry. It fished fabulous for everyone. It is always a special time when I get to fish with group. I fished with Keaton when he was only 10 years old the first time. It was great to see everyone

Wading is difficult but the fishing is still good. The water is now high enough that you can nymph fish the bigger holes effectively from the bank. A wading staff may be of use during this high water season. To better your odds of hooking trout try nymph fishing with a three fly rig. To fish effectively find the bottom of the river and then fish up. Make sure you are snagging bottom every five casts or so, this will ensure that your flies are getting down deep to the fish. Dry flies and droppers are the way to go! Work the water in between major runs and riffles, sometimes the odd pocket will produce a trophy fish. The fish are looking fat and healthy! Many nice fish in the 16-22” range have been hooked! This is your best shot at a World- Class trout fishing experience close to Denver. Try an Amy’s Ant (size 10-12) or California Blonde (size 10-16) to fool hopper eating fish.  The fishing is great.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 44-47 degrees and Slightly Off.
