Quote(s) of the Day: "You seem to have your own little stash of fish at the end of your drift"!

Fishing Highlights:

This was Ken's first time up this season. What a great first day it was. We hit the water early in the morning with a nymph rod .It took all of two drifts before Ken put his first trout of the season in the net. It just got better after that. We hooked and landed nice fish in every hole we stopped at. The weather was great foe us today. In the afternoon the fish started to come up off the bottom a little. We went to a dry dropper rig .The fish were taking the droppers a lot more than the dry fly. The fish really liked the foam on the swing today. We did have several come up and take the dry fly. The afternoon fished just as well as the morning. Ken fell one cutthroat short of a grand slam. It was great to catch up with Ken after a long winter.

The Ice is off and the stream is beginning to become fishable! This is some of the best fly fishing in Colorado! For best results start nymphing with small imitations using hook sizes 18-22.  Switch to dries and emergers when you see fish suspended just below the surface or actively rising. The Ice is out! The bite is on at both rivers and lakes! The rainbow and cut-bow in our waters have begun spawning. Fish egg patterns imitating both fresh (red eggs) and dead eggs (pale pinkish eggs). Lots of stoneflies are on the move! Nymph fish the fast water with patterns like a Pat’s rubber legs (size 10-16) or1 a Canyon Stone (size 10-16). Look for fish holding anywhere there is structure especially eddies and log jams. Fly fishing is good but the water is cold! Be sure and bring a quality pair of waist high waders and studded boots! Fishing is good but it’s still cold out there! To maximize the bite strive to be on the water from 10 am to 2 pm.  The fishing is fantastic.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Slightly Off.
