Fishing Highlights:

It’s feeling like spring more and more each day up here at Lincoln hills. Today we were greeted by blue skies and warmer temps which had the fish happy all day. Sam and Adam started the day off under an indicator and started catching fish almost immediately. The morning hours fished really well, with happy, feeding fish in every hole. Towards the end of the morning, both Sam and Adam were running dry dropper rigs and we ended up catching quite a few fish off the surface. Awesome! After a great lunch we stuck with the dry dropper set up. The first five fish in the afternoon all came up and ate the dry fly. Adam found a slow Eddie on the opposite side of the river and landed some nice fish. Around 3:30 the fish started getting lazy and we switched back over to nymphs and ended a great day in a great way. Thanks for a fun day guys.

This is some of the best fly fishing in Colorado! Good hatches of Midges and Blue Winged Olives are prevalent.  For best results start nymphing with small imitations using hook sizes 18-22.  Switch to dries and emergers when you see fish suspended just below the surface or actively rising. Concentrate your efforts on the biggest and deepest holes in the river.  Lots of stoneflies are on the move! Nymph fish the fast water with patterns like a Pat’s rubber legs (size 10-16) or1 a Canyon Stone (size 10-16). Look for fish holding anywhere there is structure especially eddies and log jams. We are catching some of the biggest rainbow trout of the year! To better your odds of hooking trout try nymph fishing with a three fly rig. To fish effectively find the bottom of the river and then fish up. Remember the fish are holding deep, to fish effectively cover the water thoroughly. Make sure you are snagging bottom every five casts or so, this will ensure that your flies are getting down deep to the fish. The river is looking superb another great summer of fishing is just around the corner.  The fishing is fantastic.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Crystal Clear.
