Quote(s) of the Day: "Mary , I don't thank you had shoulder surgery last year I think you went to fish camp"!

Fishing Highlights:

The sun finally broke out of the clouds for us today. After a week of snow and clouds it was a great sight to see. It seemed the fish were happy to see it as well. Mary was hooked up and landing her first fish of the day right away. Darren had his first fish to the net not long after. The water was extraordinarily cold early on. After having your hands in the water that many times your fingers go numb and it is all good. This was the first time all year that the nymph rig out preformed the dry dropper rig. Mary did take a few on the droppers. She also took a nice twenty four inch rainbow right before lunch. The water is flowing at a great flow right now, averaging around 85-100.The fishing was amazing all morning. After a great healthy lunch from chef D we were ready for the afternoon. Darren decided he wanted to play with the big fish as well. He took numerous fish over twenty inches. Mary stayed on her roll with a steady stream of fish too. Thanks to the both of you for a great time.

The Ice is off and the stream is beginning to become fishable! This is some of the best fly fishing in Colorado! For best results start nymphing with small imitations using hook sizes 18-22.  The Ice is out! The bite is on at both rivers and lakes! The rainbow and cut-bow in our waters have begun spawning. Fish egg patterns imitating both fresh (red eggs) and dead eggs (pale pinkish eggs). Concentrate your efforts on the biggest and deepest holes in the river.  Lots of stoneflies are on the move! Nymph fish the fast water with patterns like a Pat’s rubber legs (size 10-16) or1 a Canyon Stone (size 10-16). Look for fish holding anywhere there is structure especially eddies and log jams. Fly fishing is good but the water is cold! Be sure and bring a quality pair of waist high waders and studded boots!  The fishing is great.  Partly Cloudy skies and 44-47 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Crystal Clear.
