Quote(s) of the Day: “This is exactly what I picture Colorado fishing like!”

Fishing Highlights:

Beau and Alex were visiting from out of state this week and wanted to get involved in the fly fishing scene to see what it’s all about. Throughout the day we went over the basic fundamentals of nymph fishing as a whole. As we baby stepped our way into casting, hook set, proper drift and what a strike would look like, Alex and Beau were into fish. As we continued to catch fish throughout the morning we went over different drift techniques and basics on how a nymph rig functions. Both fellas showed excellent progress throughout the day and that ultimately showed success with a lot of trout to the basket and some good ones to boot! It was an awesome day with you guys and look forward to fishing with you again in the future.

The creek is still cold so look for fish to be in their traditional winter holding zones. Nymph rigs are producing the majority of fish. Blue winged olive mayflies and midges are the primary hatches. The weather is getting warmer and runoff is around the corner. We are getting ready to experience higher water. Make sure you are using heavily weighted nymph rigs to get down to the fish through the fast current. Reading the water is paramount to fly fishing success. Big flies are catching the attention of the fish. Use big and bright San Juan Worms, Eggs, Stoneflies and leeches.  The fishing is great.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Stained.
