Quote(s) of the Day: "It is really nice when the wind gust stop"!

Fishing Highlights:

I am not sure the weather conditions could have been much worse than they were this morning when we first arrived. Clouds and snow moving in with Gail force winds met us when we got to the river. We could not even see in the water due to the ripples and white caps. In between the gust we were able to get the flies to hit the water. Hats all it took before Charles was into his first fish of the day. Stuart was next with his first as well. The flows are a little low ,so we went with a dry dropper rig. After about an hour of the wind gust it finally slowed enough to be decent. The fish started to eat on a regular basis. Charles hooked and landed a nice twenty two inch rainbow .Stuart landed a nice rainbow in that same size range as well. After lunch we moved down river a bit .The fish were on the feed .Charles with another big rainbow. Stuart hooked into a giant rainbow that was completely rude and dashed away down stream. Thanks to the both of you for a fun time on the water today.

Do yourself a favor and get to Colorado’s mountains! The leaves are changing, the elk are bugling, and big brown trout are on the move! After a whole season of pressure the fish are getting spooky. Stealth is the name of the game so walk softly and keep a low profile. The lower flows and clear water means it’s time for smaller flies, longer leaders, and lighter tippets.  Make sure to not expose yourself too much in an effort to avoid spooking fish. The brown trout are dropping eggs and the other fish are eating them with reckless abandonment. Our professional fly fishing guides suggest fishing an egg pattern (size 16) dropped down to a mayfly imitation such as a pheasant tail (size 18). Dry and dropper rigs are fooling a lot of fish. Bundle up its cold out there! The days are getting shorter and fish are going into winter feeding habits. For best results plan on getting on the water around 10 am. Usually the bite is good until 2-3 pm.  The water is low and clear, dry dropper set ups have been consistently producing.  The fish are beginning to stack up. Concentrate your efforts on the river’s riffles and deep long holes. The water is looking good and is flowing low and clear. The sight fishing has been great. The water is getting low and the weather is getting cooler every day, better make one last voyage to the water! Only a few weeks left to catch!  The fishing is great.  Overcast skies and 44-47 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Crystal Clear.
