It's been a year since I fished with Dave and Bill and I was lucky to meet back up with them today and their buddy Marty. I really anticipated fishing a new section of river, ESPY ranch, with the guys and was happy to see they still know how to throw a rod like pros. Right off the bat Bill caught a handful of wild brownies and a solid 15" bow. Dave followed suit, hooking at least a half dozen in each run and ended up landing a few larger fish. Marty and I worked on the finer points of pocket water casting such as the 'C' cast and reach mend casts. We caught one fish on the swing that ate the soft hackle caddis and then soft hackle pheasant tail - its amazing how even under the tension of the swing the fish ate the flies so fast that the strike was only detected on one fly. We caught fish all day in all ways - dry/drop, nymphing and double dry. The cherry on top was fresh, ripe, wild raspberries ready for harvest along the banks all day.
The fishing is fantastic.
Clear skies and 19- degree weather. The water temperature was between 56-59 degrees and Crystal Clear.
