Quote(s) of the Day: “You were right about that hole being a good Czech nymph hole! “

Fishing Highlights:

Dave and I set out on foot from rollinsville down to deadwood placer. The water came down to 155 for us today and it opened up a lot of water for us to fish. The first run we came to we hit it hard with a dry dropper taking a few smaller bows and a really nice rainbow on a dropper. We did a short lesson on how to cast a European style rig and presentation and Dave’s first drift was a doozy of a rainbow. As we worked up the canyon we hit the soft seems with the dry dropper rig and finished with a Czech nymph in the deeper runs. As we came to some plunge pools we mainly Czech nymphed those holes and it was awesome. Dave had two fish on at the same time and landed some nice browns. The last fish was a football that came out of the plunge pool. It was a fantastic day to be down in the canyon and the water is looking great.

Summer is a dry fly fisher’s paradise in the canyon! It is another Colorado summer and good fly fishing is on the horizon. Look for fish to be spread out throughout the water. The fish are responding well to all kinds of angling techniques. Make sure your dropper is heavy enough to get down quick. Get to Deadwood Placer, Freeze Placer, and Yacht Club for some of the best dry fly days of the year!  The fishing is fantastic.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 48-51 degrees and Crystal Clear.
