Quote(s) of the Day: “Did you catch that fish on the second cast?”

Fishing Highlights:

It was a blue bird day up on Lincoln Hills property today. The flows were around 289CFS this morning which had the fish actively feeding right when we hit the water. We started the day with standard nymph rigs. Water temps were 42 degrees which had the fish pushed down. Mille’s second cast ended with a nice rainbow in the basket. They seemed to be keyed in on a size 14 hares ear all morning and a few odd ball eats on eggs and caddis larvae. The afternoon we switched over to dry dropper rigs and did very well. They changed their diet over to smaller baetis and midge pupae imitations. Mille had a goal in the afternoon to land 20 fish and she nailed it. They flows came up quite a bit around 3:30pm which dirtied up the water a bit but should drop back down. Thanks for a great day guys! See you in July!!

To better your odds of hooking trout try nymph fishing with a three fly rig. Runoff is subsiding. The water across Colorado is clearing up day by day and we are looking forward to doing more and more fly fishing trips. The bug life is getting active as well; summer is just around the corner. To fish effectively find the bottom of the river and then fish up. Remember the fish are holding deep, to fish effectively cover the water thoroughly. Make sure you are snagging bottom every five casts or so, this will ensure that your flies are getting down deep to the fish. The water is beginning to come down and clear up. The river is looking superb another great summer of fishing is just around the corner. The fish are looking fat and healthy! Many nice fish in the 16-22” range have been hooked! This is your best shot at a World- Class trout fishing experience close to Denver.  The fishing is great.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Crystal Clear.
