Quote(s) of the Day: I got a big one!
That’s my first rainbow trout!

Fishing Highlights:

The water is moving and the fish are stacked in the smallest of seams right now. John and JR found a couple of fish by drifting heavy stone flies followed by a worm pattern today in these small seams. Jack hooked a couple of very nice fish that we found in the little soft water along the side of the bank and behind the trees. You have to pay attention to where you are entering the water because the fish are literally right there at your feet.Hudson is a novice in the sport of fly fishing, but he had no problem catching fish after a bit of instruction. Jocelyn and Hudson were taking turns in one of the more productive holes during runoff. Jack steps in and immediately lands a very nice cutthroat. The afternoon was spent on the lake and it was challenging. Still, several fish were brought to net.

With the water running fast the fish are clinging to the bottom so be sure and bring lots of split shot and heavily weighted flies. Look for fish holding anywhere there is structure especially eddies and log jams. The water is high on most of our private properties, for a productive day try Boulder River Ranch holes and wide riffles that fish well with heavy nymph rigs and streamers. Wading is difficult but the fishing is still good. The water is now high enough that you can nymph fish the bigger holes effectively from the bank. Here comes the water for Denver!  The fishing is fair.  Overcast skies and 52-55 degree weather. The water temperature was between 36-39 degrees and Off-Color.
