Quote(s) of the Day: Thats a strike and another fish to net!

Fishing Highlights:

With the river coming up and running high and a little off color the conditions were not ideal. However we did manage to find a few spots where we could get good drifts to fish, typically tight on the banks. Being that the good spots were small, few and far between Bryan and Matthew took turns on every strike, hookup, or landed fish. It was great fun as they would tease and joke each other. Good thing the fish were feeding good and there was a solid strike every 4 to 5 drifts. We worked for the fish but had great success and a great time.

The rainbow and cut-bow in our waters have begun spawning. Fish egg patterns imitating both fresh (red eggs) and dead eggs (pale pinkish eggs). With the water running fast the fish are clinging to the bottom so be sure and bring lots of split shot and heavily weighted flies. Lots of stoneflies are on the move! Nymph fish the fast water with patterns like a Pat’s rubber legs (size 10-16) or1 a Canyon Stone (size 10-16). Fly fishing is good but the water is cold! Be sure and bring a quality pair of waist high waders and studded boots! Eggs! Make sure to bring an assortment of egg patterns like Glo Bugs and Nuclear Eggs in an assortment of different colors and sizes. Watch out for spawning beds! These areas can be easily identified by shallow light colored depressions usually found on or near long riffles. Be careful out there! Here comes the water, even most tail water streams outside of Denver are running dangerously high! Wading is difficult but the fishing is still good.  The fishing is good.  Partly Cloudy skies and 52-55 degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Off-Color.
