Quote(s) of the Day: That fish was hot!

Fishing Highlights:

Peter and I spent the morning fishing streamers. With the higher water we were focusing on the softer water close to the bank. With the sudden jump in flows we found fishing to be a little bit slow. We tried a variety of different streamers but tan, olive, and white seemed to work the best. Even though we were focusing on fishing we had are eyes peeled for birds. We saw some kingfishers an a few Stellar's Jays flying around. After a delicious lunch we worked up river never spending to much time in each spot. We ended up finding some fish holding on the edge of a deep pool. The fish we did catch were hot and had a lot of fight in them. There were multiple times Peter's Hardy reel was screaming with a big pissed off rainbow at the end of the line. Peter and I had a blast sharing stores, hooking fish, and spotting birds.

The Ice is off and the stream is beginning to become fishable! This is some of the best fly fishing in Colorado! Good hatches of Midges and Blue Winged Olives are prevalent.  Despite the high water guides are still seeing a fairly decent number of mayflies. Look for fish holding anywhere there is structure especially eddies and log jams. Wading is difficult but the fishing is still good. A wading staff may be of use during this high water season.  The fishing is good.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 40-43 degrees and Stained.
