Quote(s) of the Day: When you're just catching fish all day, you sometimes don't really learn how to fish! I enjoyed the tougher conditions today because we had to work for it and each fish felt earned.

Fishing Highlights:

It was great to see Ian, a young angler, continue to perfect his technique and consistently catch fish all day. The streamer bite got exciting at moments and run-off was erratic and unpredictable, making for a something out of a nature show.

This is some of the best fly fishing in Colorado! Good hatches of Midges and Blue Winged Olives are prevalent.  For best results start nymphing with small imitations using hook sizes 18-22.  Switch to dries and emergers when you see fish suspended just below the surface or actively rising. Concentrate your efforts on the biggest and deepest holes in the river.  With the water running fast the fish are clinging to the bottom so be sure and bring lots of split shot and heavily weighted flies. Despite the high water guides are still seeing a fairly decent number of mayflies. Wading is difficult but the fishing is still good. The water is now high enough that you can nymph fish the bigger holes effectively from the bank.  The fishing is good.  Partly Cloudy skies and 19- degree weather. The water temperature was between 56-59 degrees and Slightly Off.
