Quote(s) of the Day: Our goal is to catch more fish than our dad's

Fishing Highlights:

Yesterday and last night laid down a nice blanket of snow on South Boulder creek, and today it was all about melting and run off. The water was stained for the morning session and we took advantage of it, landing some nice rainbows. Gigi was the first one to land a fish on her nymph setup, but Jojo quickly matched it with a rainbow of her own. We were catching them on caddis imitations and small mayfly nymphs. After lunch we headed out again and we hooked into several fish, but the fish won many of the battles and didn't make it to the net. We finally started landing fish again, but noticed the water was getting dirty as the snow was melting and the runoff was evident. We mostly stuck to bright colored bugs and after a trout took the bright orange indicator four times straight we added eggs to mix and continued to produce fish. The girls had a great time and we got lots of "fish kiss" pictures.

The rainbow and cut-bow in our waters have begun spawning. Fish egg patterns imitating both fresh (red eggs) and dead eggs (pale pinkish eggs). With the water running fast the fish are clinging to the bottom so be sure and bring lots of split shot and heavily weighted flies. Look for fish holding anywhere there is structure especially eddies and log jams. Fly fishing is good but the water is cold! Be sure and bring a quality pair of waist high waders and studded boots! To fish effectively find the bottom of the river and then fish up. Remember the fish are holding deep, to fish effectively cover the water thoroughly.  The fishing is good.  Clear skies and 56-59 degree weather. The water temperature was between 32-35 degrees and Off-Color.
