I cannot feel my hands, well, I can and the they hurt ... but its so worth it!
Are these the worst conditions you have ever guided?
Man it's cold!

Fishing Highlights:

Today was a cold day and I think the season is coming to an end. We had trouble even getting through the ice to get to the fish so unfortunately we were not able to fish today with all of the slush in the water. I hope next year when these guys come back the weather cooperates with us!Day two with the guys was another very memorable day of gritting out severe weather conditions. Dan, Aaron and I started off looking for open water near swirl hole. It was fun trying to get perfect casts in between icebergs floating down the river, and then negotiating completely frozen leader, split shot and flies. Today was certainly the most extreme weather I've fished in - the water was barely over 32 degrees and the air temp below zero. We all looked like spacemen, exploring the antarctic, hoping to catch a fish with long sticks of ice-line. Aaron busted out a couple sixty foot double hauls on the lake - which was pretty amazing considering its one of his first times fly fishing for trout. Dan and I gave it our best but found no willing trout. However, Kody was a soldier to the bitter end and it did result in a gorgeous Cutthroat in bridge hole. The drop shot rig was the only way to make it past all of the ice but persistence paid off, along with a a sick pleasure for painConditions don't get much worse. Snow and single-digit temperatures. We headed out to find any fishable water but we had no success. There was too much shelf ice and slush in the river to get your flies down to the fish. You had to break the ice off the line after every cast. We explored the property and took in its winter beauty. Hopefully, the weather gets better and the river opens back up.Today we kept it nice and short. The temps dropped into the single digits over night, pushing the fish to the bottom. Our goal was one fish to the net. Euro nymphing was the best method, and we got it done. After about an hour of casting, we fooled one 15" bow out from under the ice shelf. Success! We were off to get some warm food in in our bellies. Thanks for sticking with it through the cold. Our second day on the water followed the first, with cold temps and snowfall. We chose to get on the water later in hopes to let it warm up. It didn't, so we decided to go for it. It was nearly impossible to keep the ice from building on the line and flies. We caught a few fish and noted a successful day and quickly ran in the clubhouse to warm up! It looks like Winter may be here to stay! What and awesome day on the water! Even with the recent weather we've been having it's been tough to catch a decent day to fish so we decided to stick it out and make the most of what we had. Dave and I decided to work a couple runs in the morning to see if anything was biting but we only had one take, given the circumstances we figured that was good enough so we decided to call it and go enjoy a warm meal prepared by chef D!

The water is looking good and is flowing low and clear. I can’t feel my hands it’s freezing outside! Time to put the fly rod away and tie some flies! Looks like winter is around the corner, what a season it was! Can’t wait until next spring!  The fishing is fair.  Overcast skies and 19- degree weather. The water temperature was between 32-35 degrees and Crystal Clear.
