Quote(s) of the Day: “That’s a way to end the day, on a three inch Brooke!”

Fishing Highlights:

The seasons have changed up here on the property with yellow aspens and gusty winds coming down the drainage. It’s a great time to be out on the water to enjoy the colors and great fishing. Alan came up today with intentions on continuing to learn on euro nymphing. We started the morning off with a traditional Czech rig but the fish didn’t respond well to the big bugs so we made necessary changes and started to pick up fish. Right before lunch fish were active and feeding which made a solid finish before lunch. After lunch fishing was great with some aggressive eats and some nice fish. We hooked some big fish in the afternoon but got the best of us. Alan fished the day on a nice 3” broom trout which is hard to beat because brookies are always a treat. Thanks for a fun day Alan and enjoy your winter. See you next season.

Do yourself a favor and get to Colorado’s mountains! The leaves are changing, the elk are bugling, and big brown trout are on the move! After a whole season of pressure the fish are getting spooky. Stealth is the name of the game so walk softly and keep a low profile. The lower flows and clear water means it’s time for smaller flies, longer leaders, and lighter tippets.  Make sure to not expose yourself too much in an effort to avoid spooking fish. Blue Winged Olives are everywhere! Try nymphing with small patterns like the JuJu Baetis. If you see risers try patterns like The Parachute Adams in smaller sizes, 16-20. The fish are beginning to stack up. Concentrate your efforts on the river’s riffles and deep long holes. The water is looking good and is flowing low and clear. With the nice weather there is still ample opportunity for good days on the water. The sight fishing has been great.  The fishing is great.  Clear skies and 56-59 degree weather. The water temperature was between 48-51 degrees and Crystal Clear.
