Quote(s) of the Day: “I just look down the river and notice how beautiful it is!”

Fishing Highlights:

John and mike came up for a day on south boulder creek with me. Mike is brand new to fly fishing and his dad has been a few times. After some basic instruction on fundamentals with a nymph rig mike was into his first trout. John followed suit landing his first fish of the morning. We worked up river finding a feeding fish or two in each hole willing to eat a well presented fly. After lunch we changed up tactics to a dry dropper rig and managed to take quite a few fish in the dry and mist came on the emerging insects. Fishing the smaller midge pupae today proved effective and some nice Lincoln hills trout we landed. Thanks for spending the day with me mike and John and I look forward to taking you guys out again in the future.

Do yourself a favor and get to Colorado’s mountains! The leaves are changing, the elk are bugling, and big brown trout are on the move! After a whole season of pressure the fish are getting spooky. Stealth is the name of the game so walk softly and keep a low profile. The lower flows and clear water means it’s time for smaller flies, longer leaders, and lighter tippets.  Make sure to not expose yourself too much in an effort to avoid spooking fish. The browns are beginning to spawn. Please watch out for spawning beds so we can be sure to have a successful hatch! The water is low and clear, dry dropper set ups have been consistently producing.  The water is looking good and is flowing low and clear. With the nice weather there is still ample opportunity for good days on the water. The sight fishing has been great.  The fishing is good.  Partly Cloudy skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 60+ degrees and Crystal Clear.
