Quote(s) of the Day: Catching a fish like that makes it all worth it!
"That big fish ate again".

Fishing Highlights:

Today was awesome hanging out with Bill and Susan on the river, it had been a while but I was quickly reminded of their skill as we hooked fish right off the bat in Opal's Run. it was 32 degrees and frosty! The morning provided technical fishing conditions with small flies and light tippet. We hooked fish in every likely spot if our drift was just right - and the big ones are out to play...but you better be ready to battle the beast! It was super fun to play with the hyper selective fish in bridge hole with Susan - the perfect drift + the perfect fly = big fish hitting lightly. Bill straight up was hooking fish left and right and all I did was net fish all day... super sweet watching the big time streamer eats too. The afternoon really heated up with fish feeding hard on emerging beatis. Susan and I absolutely crushed lower diversion while watching some sweet aerials from ballistic rainbows. Overall, it was a treat spending the day fishing with everyone - thank you. It was a hot day on the river as we didn't see a cloud all day. Ogden and Mike were enjoying the solitude around them. The fishing really got hot in the afternoon. Ogden and I saw a really big trout and we focused on him. He made a few casts with a triple dry and the big trout ate the H and L variant but popped off. He casted again and the trout ate the same fly again but we had no hook set. When we brought the flies in to look at we saw that the H and L had no hook on it. That is why we didn't get the second hook set when he ate it. We were able to get that big one to eat our flies two ore times, once on a hopper/dropper and finally on a nymph rig. Ogden fought that big trout well but when he turned and ran down stream he was unable to stop him and he broke off. That was one fun trout to play with.

Lots of insects are on the water! This is some of the best fly fishing close to Denver right now. We are seeing regular hatches of Pale Morning Duns, Gray and Green Drakes, Mahogany Duns, Caddis, Yellow Sallies, and Golden Stones.  The evening hatch has been something you just don’t want to miss. The shallow riffles at Boulder River Ranch are bug factories this season! The late morning and early afternoon have been producing some outstanding dry fly fishing. Dry flies and droppers are the way to go! It summer at Lincoln Hills, the big fish are on the feed and many big fish in the 4-6 pound class have been hooked and our fly fishing trips have been fantastic. Work the water in between major runs and riffles, sometimes the odd pocket will produce a trophy fish. The fish are looking fat and healthy! Many nice fish in the 16-22” range have been hooked! The big fish are on the feed! Anglers are reporting hooking numerous brown and rainbow trout in the 5-10 pound range. This is your best shot at a World- Class trout fishing experience close to Denver. Try an Amy’s Ant (size 10-12) or California Blonde (size 10-16) to fool hopper eating fish.  The fishing is fantastic.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 52-55 degrees and Crystal Clear.
