Fishing Highlights:

Today was a spectacular, iconic experience in the Colorado mountains. The perfect weather greeted us from start to finish and the cherry on top was great fishing. Charlie, Bruce and I started on the Lincoln Hills beat, which at 300 cfs is a tricky stretch of river - you need to find what little pockets of holding water exist. The good news is there are fish tucked away in all these nooks and crannies and a good drift is often all it takes to hook up. The morning remains a little slow, much like how a tailwater fishes but as you approach the afternoon the bugs start hatching the fish get really aggressive. Placer beat fished great in the afternoon. Bruce hooked up with a really big rainbow right off the bat and continued to hook several fish in each likely looking spot. Charlie and I picked up a few solid fish out of swirl hole and the riffles upstream, which are absolutely stuffed with fish right now. It'll be a long while before I forget that huge rainbow that broke us off!

Lots of insects are on the water! This is some of the best fly fishing close to Denver right now. We are seeing regular hatches of Pale Morning Duns, Gray and Green Drakes, Mahogany Duns, Caddis, Yellow Sallies, and Golden Stones.  The shallow riffles at Boulder River Ranch are bug factories this season! The late morning and early afternoon have been producing some outstanding dry fly fishing. Dry flies and droppers are the way to go! It summer at Lincoln Hills, the big fish are on the feed and many big fish in the 4-6 pound class have been hooked and our fly fishing trips have been fantastic. Work the water in between major runs and riffles, sometimes the odd pocket will produce a trophy fish. The fish are looking fat and healthy! Many nice fish in the 16-22” range have been hooked! This is your best shot at a World- Class trout fishing experience close to Denver. Try an Amy’s Ant (size 10-12) or California Blonde (size 10-16) to fool hopper eating fish.  The fishing is great.  Clear skies and 60+ degree weather. The water temperature was between 48-51 degrees and Crystal Clear.
