Ryan Sullivan - Guide Service Manager
Ryan is a native, born and raised in Colorado, and introduced to fly fishing by his father. He keeps a receipt for fly tying materials that his father purchased from The Flyfisher dated March 1976 next to his fly tying bench to inspire him as he formulates his next break through pattern. He cut his angling teeth on the South Platte, specifically Cheesman Canyon, with two childhood friends continually sharpening and challenging each other’s skills.
After a short stint as a ski bum in Jackson Hole where he competed in free-skiing competitions, Ryan went to work at a fly fishing guest lodge outside of Yellowstone National Park. It was then that he got his start as a fly fishing guide. He spent his college years in Fort Collins, and continued to guide part time for a local shop. While in school, he was on staff as a counselor for high school students and it was then that he realized his desire to connect with people and families alike.
Ryan’s desire to spend time and connect with people eventually culminated in a Master's Degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary in the fall of 2004. He currently runs a private counseling practice in Denver and is working to combine guiding with counseling in the context that only fly fishing can offer. From his time spent on the water with clients, guides, family and friends, he has come to realize and appreciate that guiding must be tailored to an individual's desire for adventure, instruction, and obviously the indescribable feeling of a fish peeling line off of a reel, the ensuing battle, and eventually the fish coming to net. He looks forward to sharing a day with you on the water, a day you will surely remember.
